Oliver will be one in ten weeks. That is too weird. This year has just flown by. Before we know it, he’ll be starting kindergarten.
I think Oliver is either a little sick or is going through a growth spurt. He ate like a fiend today and has been taking really long naps the last couple of days. On Friday and Saturday he ended his afternoon nap in bed with me (I was using his last nap as an excuse to rest myself) and thus he extended that nap to a good hour and a half. Here’s what he looked like during his afternoon nap yesterday, asleep on our bed.
Today he took 2 two-hour naps. That’s strange for Oliver but kind of a nice break for us. Unfortunately, I think he’s taking these long naps during the day because he keeps waking up at 5:30 every morning. I’m hoping he breaks himself of that habit soon.
We had a really fun and busy weekend. My parents came up on Saturday for lunch and to get an Oliver fix. We all went to eat at Fuego’s and then went to a resale shop and to Terra Toys to buy some goodies for the kiddo. After my parents headed back to San Antonio, Brian, Oliver and I went over to Kester, Rachel and Harry’s house for dinner. They had also invited their friends, Adam and Erica, and their six-month old son, Asher. So we had a great time meeting new friends and watching the babies interact.
I spent most of today running errands trying to get ready for my trip but have had a great evening with Oliver. Brian had book club so it was just the two of us and he was in such a good mood. We played and played and played. And every once in awhile he would crawl to me, pull up on my shoulders and cuddle into my arms. I guess he’s trying to make sure I’m going to miss him terribly while I’m gone. It’s succeeded. I almost started bawling when I was rocking him to sleep tonight thinking about how much I’m going to miss that while I’m gone. I hope this week goes fast.
In general “developmental” Oliver news, I think he’s coming along in his verbal development. He still ignores us when we call his name but he’s babbling a lot more and (even though Brian thinks I’m crazy), I swear that when he starts to pet the dogs he says: “Da da da” and when he goes after the cats he says “Keh keh keh.” I think his first word is going to be either doggy or kitty since those are probably the words he’s heard the most.
Here are the pictures from this week. You’ll notice that we got some “traditional” shots but that Oliver looks a little terrified in some of them. That’s because in order to get those shots Brian resorted to picking up Oliver’s big car and shaking it violently above his head. Freaked the kid out a little but he sat still. You’ll also see that we came up with a new technique for getting our Sundays With Oliver shots. Don’t put Oliver on the dog, put the dog on Oliver!
